Melvin E. Walker

Melvin E. Walker, 83, of Sherrard, Illinois, died Monday, September 14, 2015, in his home surrounded by his family.

Services are 10 a.m. Friday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Andalusia Cemetery, where Milan American Legion Post #569 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Area Four Special Olympics.

Melvin Eugene Walker was born May 23, 1932, in Lowpoint, Illinois, to Lyle and Thelma (Noll) Walker. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and married Ruth Houk on November 16, 1957, in Andalusia. She died April 24, 2013. He was a life-long trucker and a member of the Teamsters Union. After retiring, he drove for Quad City Auto Auction until 2013. He was a member of the Milan American Legion, loved to fish, and volunteered for area food pantries.

Mel is survived by six children and their spouses, Kenneth and Laurie Walker of Milan, Illinois, Sharon and Robert Brooks of Alpha, Illinois, Penny Graves of Cocoa, Florida, Vickie McMullin of Rock Island, Illinois, Theresa Ebberson and her fiancé Mike Harland of Viola, Illinois, and Nancy and Tim Kisner of Milan; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and two more being anticipated; and siblings, Doris Wilkins of Milan, Lenora Ahrens of Omaha, Nebraska, Gloria Cunningham of Milan, and Larry Walker of Middleburg, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; children, Cynthia Walker and Melvin Walker, Jr.; and siblings, Ida Mae Schroeder, Betty Buchanan, Howard Walker and Robert Walker.
