Melvin D. "Bud" Matherly, Jr., 68, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Trinity Rock Island.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Assembly of God, Rock Island, with Rev. Dan Qualls officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the family.
Bud was born January 15, 1948, in Davenport, Iowa, to Melvin Dale Sr. and Eva Rae (Grams) Matherly. He married Emma Lee Woods on July 8, 1968, in Rock Island. He served in the US Army in Vietnam, owned Matherly Flowers and Gifts in Coal Valley, and sold antiques and did furniture restoring. He loved his Lord, his family was his life, and he enjoyed woodworking, bicycling, yardwork, flowers, and nature.
Bud is survived by his wife, Lee; children, Jessica Brown and her husband Dustin, Jeremiah Matherly and Jason Matherly; granddaughters, Bailey, Heidi, and Cassandra Brown; his mother, Eva Rae Matherly; and sisters, Sheri Williams, Barbara Schmidt and Beverly Coolidge and her husband Bill. He was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Susan Jean Peterson.
