Karen House, 71, of Litchfield, New Hampshire, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, in her home surrounded by family.
Graveside services are 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 18, at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline, with Reverend Sonia Alvarado of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, officiating. Those attending should meet at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, before 10:45 a.m. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church or the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
The former Karen Ann Wilson was born August 14, 1939, in Moline, the daughter of Oscar Ney and Bernice Marjorie (Johnson) Wilson. She married Larry Don House on August 14, 1980, in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Karen graduated from Moline High School in 1957, and received her Bachelors of Education from Western Illinois University in 1961. She taught 2nd grade in East Moline, Anaheim, California, Japan, Okinawa, and Germany, retiring from the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DODDS) in 1991.
She enjoyed traveling whenever she wasn?t working, sewing, gardening, and her cats.
Karen is survived by her husband, Larry House, of Litchfield; her mother, Bernice Wilson of East Moline, Illinois; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Frederick Humphrey of Moline; nieces and their families, JoAnn and Michael Newberg, and their sons, Blake and Brett, and Jill and Guillermo Valdes, and their daughters, Alexa and Kalli Harris, and Emme, Baylee, and Devon Valdes, all of Moline.
