Bruce C. Bjork, 65, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday, January 23, 2012, in his home.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Bruce?s life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hilltop Tavern, 1228 30th Street, Rock Island. Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center, Iowa City, or to the family. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
Bruce Clifford Bjork was born November 5, 1946, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Clifford Elwood and Maybeth Gould Bjork. He graduated from Rock Island High School in 1964, and attended black Hawk College. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
Bruce worked for Scott Decorating for many years, and later was a self-employed painter, retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Painter?s Union, and an avid golfer and sports fan all his life.
Bruce is survived by three children, Ross Bjork of Moline, Fran Taylor and her husband Thomas of East Moline, and Rhonda Bjork of Davenport, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Patrick, Allison, William, and Lillian Taylor, and Stormi, Kaylee, and Evan Bjork; a great-grandson, Eli Taylor; siblings, Jim Bjork of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Rev. Barbara Robarge of Sun City, Arizona; and his long-time partner, Peggy Boldt of Rock Island.
