Services for Maynard H. "Spud" Anderson, 85, of Viola, are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Aledo. The Reverend Robert Pearson, Calvary Lutheran Church, New Windsor, will officiate. Burial is in Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Lutheran Church.
Mr. Anderson died Friday, March 30, 2001, in his home near Viola.
He was born December 1, 1915, in the home in which he died, the son of Herman and Svea (Anderson) Anderson. He married Gladys Berner on March 8, 1947, in Clinton, Iowa. She died February 9, 1997. After graduating from high school, Maynard farmed with his brother, Lee Anderson, for four years. He then served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps in the Pacific Theater during WW II. After the war, he and his brother, Carl, operated Anderson Brothers Garage in Viola, and Maynard then owned and operated Anderson Garage in Viola from 1951 until 1971. He worked at Farmers Grain and Supply in Viola from 1971 until retiring in 1977.
Maynard was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, New Windsor. He enjoyed working on his farm and working with his hands.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Iris Paulsen of Aledo, Jim Paulsen and Leigh Maddox of Pikesville, Maryland, and Dennis and Jacqueline Anderson of Woodstock, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Robin Wainwright, Lane and Sean Paulsen, Bryce and Corrine Paulsen, and Megan and Eric Anderson; seven great-grandchildren, Derek, Chelsea, Erin and Paige Wainwright, Hannah and Emily Paulsen, and Jenna Paulsen; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Anderson of Viola. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and three brothers, Ernest, Carl and Lee Anderson.
