Maxine Carlson Barker, 74, of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, March 2, 2011, in her home after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. A prayer service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lance Love officiating. Following cremation, interment will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The former Maxine Ann Needham was born November 29, 1936, in Moline, the daughter of Harold H. and Ebba Nelson Needham. She graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, in 1954, and served as Assistant to the President of Montgomery Elevator Company from 1959 to 1997. She married Dale Carlson in 1957. She later married John C. Barker, MD, in 1989. He died in 2001.
She enjoyed biking, gardening, traveling and cooking.
Maxine is survived by three children, Jeffrey A. Carlson of Moline, Lori J. Carlson and Terry Robinson of Moline, and Michael D. Carlson of Revere, Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Eric, Ashley, Andrea, Adam and Amanda; three great-grandchildren, Adrian, Braxton, and Haley; three step children, Carrie Barker, MD, and her husband Gregory Sterling of Iowa City, Iowa, Jennifer Barker and her husband Harold Zimmerman of Johnson City, Tennessee, and John S. Barker of Morrisville, Pennsylvania; two step-grandchildren, Hugh and Andrew; a sister, Beverly Johnson of Rock Island; and a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Sharon Needham of Moline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John Barker; a daughter, Christine Carlson who died March 16, 2010, and a granddaughter, Amber.
