Matthew D. Reyes, 90, of Moline, Illinois, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, December 13, 2018, at home.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, with Father Mark DeSutter officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with a rosary at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church or Active Day of Moline.
Matthew Daniel Reyes was born June 23, 1928, in East Moline, Illinois, the son of Angel F. and Nieves (Ramirez) Reyes. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, earning 3 Bronze Service Stars. He married Isabel Olvera on July 29, 1961, in Milan, Illinois. He spent 39 years working at International Harvester East Moline Works, retiring in 1989. After retiring, he worked with his wife and family at El Pavito Restaurant in Moline.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Moline, Moline American Legion Post #246, East Moline VFW Post #8890, the Lulac Club 10 in Davenport, and was an active union member. He enjoyed golfing and walking, making homemade tortillas for El Pavito, and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears' fan. Above all else, Matt loved being with his family, especially his grandkids.
Matt is survived by his beloved wife of over 57 years, Isabel; two son,s Jacob (Jennifer) Reyes of Moline, and Gerard Reyes of Delton, Michigan; two grandchildren, Michael and Isabelle Reyes; step-sisters, Andrea, Christina, Eleanor, and Louise; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Reveles and Kathleen Sierra; and a brother, Angel Reyes, Jr.
