Mary Meier, 86, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024, after a valiant fight with Alzheimer’s.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at Cityview Celebrations, the lower level at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. A private burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family.
Mary Benge Meier was born May 14, 1937, to Thomas and Velma (Kintzle) Benge, in Davenport, Iowa. After graduating from Davenport Central High School, she married Albert H. Meier in December 1955. Mary and Al met while working at The Capitol Theatre in Davenport, where she was the popcorn girl, and he was an usher. They had three children, Kathy, Tom, and Carol. Mary was an incredible, loving mother.
Mary was an avid quilter and lifelong sewer, who owned and operated Always in Stitches in Moline, Illinois, with her sister Lois. She also loved reading, bowling, and traveling.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Kerry) Sellers; her grandchildren, Gretchen, Courtney, Cody, Holly, and Jackson; her sisters, Lois Mayers, and Marge Day; her brothers, Thomas Benge, Robert (Jody) Benge, and Jim (Michelle) Benge; her sister-in-law, Marcia Shalamskas; her uncle, Earl Kintzle; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Albert Meier; her parents, Thomas and Velma Benge; her daughter, Carol Jean Meier; and her son, Tom Meier.
The Family would like to sincerely thank the staff at The Summit of Bettendorf, and St. Croix Hospice for all their help and wonderful care they gave to Mary. She was truly loved by all.
