Mary Ellen Stahr, 91, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to Christian Friendliness or Lutheran Social Services of Illinois.
The former Mary Ellen Foster was born November 17, 1924, in Trenton, Missouri, to Herschel Wallace and Mattie Faye (Jackson) Foster. She married Frederick R. Stahr, Jr. on June 9, 1942, in Portsmouth, Virginia. He died April 8, 2010. She had been an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, East Moline, Women's Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, Christian Friendliness Association, and PTA. She and her husband were foster parents to 75 children over several years. She enjoyed cooking and sewing.
Mary Ellen is survived by three children and their spouses, Julie and Gary McWilliams of Glenview, Illinois, Gerald "Gerry" and Debbie Stahr of Coal Valley, Illinois, and Timothy Stahr of Moline; five grandchildren and spouses, Greg and Janet McWilliams, Katherine and Brian Allen, Andrew and Jennifer Stahr, Nichol and Charles Ashmore, and Brian Stahr; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia Marinangeli of Morrison, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Frederick "Rick" Stahr III; and a sister, Betty Lou Ferguson.
