Mary D. Scholfield, 99, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, April 20, 2013, in her residence at The Fort Armstrong, Rock Island.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, with The Reverend Sonia Alvarado officiating. Visitation is 9:30 a.m. until service time. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
Mary Denton Simmons was born April 29, 1913, in Greene County, Illinois, to John Rawls and Nora Myrtle Simmons. She was educated in White Hall, Illinois, and graduated from Brown Business College in Alton, Illinois. She married Keith Rawlings Scholfield May 26, 1935, in White Hall. He died August 23, 1990.
She was a member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, serving in various capacities including member of United Methodist Women (past president), Naomi Circle and Senior Fellowship Group. She served on the Senior Board of Directors for the Visting Nurse Association in Dubuque, Iowa, and also served on the Board of Directors of the Dubuque YMCA. She was a member of the Margaret Bottome?McGee Circle of Kings Daughters and the B.L. Chapter of P.E.O.
Mary is survived by a son, Paul (Linda) Scholfield of Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Sherill Shreefer of Merriam, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Scholfield of Plainfield, Illinois; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many friends, including Mary Ann Harvey. She was preceded in death by three sons, Thomas Denton Scholfield, who died in infancy, Keith Duane Scholfield, who died April 1994, and John Frederic Scholfield, who died September 2010.
