Marvin H. Wiederin, 83, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa.
A Mass of Christian Burial is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation is 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with a prayer service at 3:00 p.m. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Ambrose Renew and Restore Fund or Mercy Hospital Hospice, Iowa City.
Marvin Henry Wiederin was born August 20, 1933, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of August and Marie (Wernimont) Wiederin. As a young man, he worked with his brothers on the family farm and ran his own hay baling operation. He served in Korea while in the U.S. Army before marrying Marcia McFarlin on February 11, 1961, in Moline.
He was an electronics technician for Mid-American Energy for 37 years, retiring in 1995. He enjoyed woodcarving, and was a member of the Mississippi Valley and National Woodcarvers Associations. Other hobbies included traveling and photography. A devout Catholic all of his life, Marvin was known for his kindness and generosity and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Marvin is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Marcia; a daughter, Kristin MacDonald of Tiffin, Iowa; a son, David Wiederin, his fiancé Rhiannon Bauer, and her daughter, Meckenzie, all of Davenport; four granddaughters, Elyse (Kyle) Morris, Erika (Steve) Bradarich, Allison (Mike) Ervanian, and Hannah (Casey) Payne; seven great-grandchildren, August Morris, Peyton, Noah, and Sophia Bradarich, Isaiah Ervanian, and Benjamin and Sydney Payne; three brothers, Don (Lu) Wiederin, Irwin (Ruby) Wiederin, and Richard (Linda) Wiederin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Harmon, and a step-grandson, Cody Risse.
