Martin E. Schroeder, 79, of Orion, Illinois, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, Moline, with The Reverend Wilfred Karsten officiating. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion. Visitation is one hour before the services in the church. Memorials may be made to the church, where he was a member. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is in charge of arrangements.
Martin was born January 26, 1927, in Coal Valley, Illinois, to Albert and Alice (Grabow) Schroeder. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Rock Island and graduated as Valedictorian from Orion High School. He served as a Sergeant First Class in the U. S. Army Combat Engineers in Korea. He married Lois Hepner on August 6, 1952, in Coal Valley.
He farmed his whole life, and also worked for Western Township for 21 years. He enjoyed toy collecting, auctions, driving a combine and doing number fill-in puzzles.
Martin is survived by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Diane Schroeder of Orion; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Julie Schroeder of Andover, Illinois; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters and a brother-in-law, Alma Sigler of Moline and Elizabeth and Ray Bjork of Osco, Illinois; and a brother, Herman Schroeder of Port Byron; as well as nieces, nephews and many cousins.
