Martha A. Gibson

Martha A. Gibson, 93, of Moline, died Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Funeral services are Monday, October 11, 2004 at First United Methodist Church, Rock Island were she was a member. Visitation is Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. A committal service will take place Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. in the mausoleum at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorial donations may be given to the Memorial Trust Fund at First United Methodist Church, Rock Island. The former Martha A. Bordner was born April 7, 1911 in Columbia City, IN the daughter of Charles S. and Lana A. (Burkholder) Bordner She graduated in 1929 from Muncie Central High School, Muncie, IN. She began working as a bookkeeper at Penzyl's Book Store in Muncie. Martha married Wilbur E. Gibson on April 24, 1937 in Muncie. In 1942, Martha, Wilbur, and their son David moved to the Quad Cities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur, in October 1983. Martha was a 50 year member of the Church, a member of the Friendship Class, the Ella Taylor Guild, the United Methodist Women, and played piano for the Cradle Roll. She was a fifty year member of the Johanna Dunavin Circle of Kings Daughters. For ten years she was in charge of the vision testing program for the Moline Elementary Schools. Martha loved playing bridge and was a member of several bridge groups. She enjoyed sewing for her family, and loved playing the piano.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Avalon Gibson of Coal Valley, a great niece, Marilyn Wagner of Knox, IN, and a sister-in-law, Wanda Gibson of Dayton, OH.
