Marjorie Chapman, 94, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, in Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Western Township Cemetery, Orion, Illinois. Visitation is one hour before the services. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, or a favorite charity.
The former Marjorie Ruth Wahlstrom was born September 2, 1919, to Herman and Ruth Harmanson Wahlstrom, on her family's farm in rural Orion, Illinois, where she grew up. While material possessions were few - there was no electricity available until she was 9 - values, ethics and a loving environment prevailed. She attended a one room country school and earned a full tuition scholarship to the University of Illinois, but was unable to use it since her family couldn't afford room and board. This background made her especially proud of the academic and life accomplishments of her children and grandchildren.
She married Charles "Chappie" Chapman on June 15, 1941, in Bloomington, Illinois, and lived their entire married lives in Moline. He died October 14, 1991. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline, loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed reading and traveling.
Marjorie is survived by four children and their spouses, Sue and Tom Guild of Garland, Nebraska, Betty and Tom Marhoefer of Moline, and Jon and Pam Chapman and Sharm and John Schneck, all of Coal Valley, Illinois; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Kristin Guild and her fiancé Mike Childs, Katie and Rafael Gonzalez, Tommy Marhoefer, Tanya and Mark Hopson, Paul and Anne Chapman, Tiffany Chapman, Anne and Tim Perez, and Sarah and Chad Johnson; and eight great-grandchildren. She was eagerly awaiting the births of two more great-grandchildren in January. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother, Norman Wahlstrom.
Marjorie's family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Heartland Health Care Center, especially Brandon, Missy, Tyson, and Diane, and invites friends to share stories and condolences and light a candle in her memory at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
