Marion M. Monson

Marion M. Monson, 92, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, in UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Private graveside services will be held at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dispatch Good Fellow Fund. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is serving the family.

The former Marion Josephine Mitchell was born May 8, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, to Donald G. and Josephine (Zenisek) Mitchell. She graduated from Downer's Grove High School, where she was co-valedictorian with her future brother-in-law, Chester Monson, and attended the University of Illinois. She married Robert A. Monson on October 7, 1944, in Hutchinson, Kansas. He died September 29, 2011. She worked for Dohrn Transfer for 16 years, and was a realtor for 20 years. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline, Short Hills Country Club, East Moline, Chapter KT of P.E.O. Sisterhood, and King's Daughters. She loved her dog, Rusty.

Marion is survived by two children and their spouses, Marcia and Gary Dohrn of Lynn Center, Illinois, and Tracy and Carolyn Monson of Moline; five grandchildren, Heather Dohrn-Schmit and her husband Matt, Joe Dohrn and his wife Ashley, Mitchell Monson, Carrie Monson, and Jennifer Ruud and her husband Jonathan; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her brother, Donald Mitchell.
