Marilyn Wing, 79, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House after a long battle with ovarian cancer. She was born August 3, 1945 in Dubuque, Iowa to Dr. John A. Link and Marvel (Hinman) Link. 

Marilyn graduated from Dubuque Catholic High School in 1963. She received her bachelor of science from the University of Wisconsin at Platteville in 1968. She received her masters degree in Counselor Education in 1969. She was a guidance counselor in Goose Lake before being hired in1980 as a counselor at Bettendorf Middle School. She retired in 2001.

She was united in marriage to her best friend Stephen P. Wing on October 9, 1982. In addition to her husband, she is survived by nieces, nephews, great niece and nephews, and a half brother and half sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, in laws, brother, sister, nephew, sister-in-law, grandparents and an infant brother and sister at birth.

She was a kind and generous person. She loved life and her interests included music, sewing, cross stitch, golf, cooking, puzzles, shopping, walking and other outdoor activities. She was first chair clarinetist throughout high school. She was first chair clarinetist in the University symphony band and orchestra as well as played in several music groups. She was selected to play in the all star college orchestra in Madison, Wisconsin. She also played in the Clinton and Dubuque symphonies and later in the Bettendorf Community Band. She belonged to many educational organizations and was a member of Delta Pi honor society in education. She enjoyed attending Quad City Symphony concerts and the annual River Front Pops.

Marilyn expresses a very special thanks to her husband who was by her side over the entire course of this disease and to her niece, Lauri, for their love and support throughout this ordeal. She is grateful to the staff of Genesis Hospice and the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for care in her final days. She is also grateful to the doctors and nurses for their care and concern during this journey.

Marilyn has requested that there be no visitation or service. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. To celebrate her life Marilyn asks that an act of kindness or expression of caring be offered to others. Memorials may be made to ovarian cancer research, Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House or a charity of your choice.
