Marilyn Jean Effland, 78, of Green Bay, Wisconsin, formerly of Madison, Wisconsin, and Moline, Illinois, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2006, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Friends may call at Trimble Funeral Home, 601-21st Street, Moline, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2006. Burial service at the Moline Memorial Park Cemetery will be on Thursday March 9th with the family attending. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a contribution to any Alzheimer organization of the Donor's choice.
She was born on April 15, 1927, to Lyle W. Effland and Mary Nichols Effland. Marilyn grew up in Moline, Illinois, graduating from Moline High School, followed by an honors degree in Chemistry from Monmouth College.
A long time resident of Madison, Wisconsin, she was employed as a research chemist at the USDA Forest Products Laboratory until her retirement.
Marilyn was an accomplished knitter and had a lifelong interest in nature as a member of the Nature Conservancy, the Sierra Club and a committed volunteer at the UW Arboretum. She took advantage of Madison's many benefits and was an avid Badger Fan. Friends and travel were important and she thoroughly enjoyed both, especially to and from England with her good friend Di Orton.
Marilyn is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Suzie Effland of Green Bay; their son, John Effland of Green Bay; their daughter, Kelly Smith and her husband, Christopher and their daughters, Kayla and Jenna, of Grayslake, Illinois; her aunt, Virginia Effland of Little Rock, Arkansas, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving sister, Janan Effland, of Moline.
