Marie Lamb

December 11, 1924 — February 3, 2018

Marie Lamb, 93, formerly of East Moline, Illinois, died Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Bickford Cottage, Moline, Illinois.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, February 15th at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory. Marie will be buried at Rock Island National Cemetery during a private funeral.

The former Marie Coopman was born December 11, 1924, in Walnut Grove, Minnesota, to Frederick Coopman and Matilda Van Hecke Coopman. The Coopman family moved from Minnesota to Illinois living on Big Island and Moline when Marie was a child. She attended high school at St. Mary's in Moline and frequently told stories to her children about she and her high school friends skipping school and spending time at Lagomarcinos until Father Barnes retrieved them and sent them back to school. Her friends and family aptly called her by her nickname "Sunshine". In her early 20s, she worked downtown Moline at the Chicago Mail Order store and the Fifth Avenue dress shop.

Her future mother-in-law and sister-in-law presented her with an engagement ring during a picnic at Riverside Park as her future husband, William Lamb, was overseas serving with the US Marines during World War II. She said "yes" and married William Lamb on November 11, 1949 in Milan, Illinois.

Marie worked for a number of years as school secretary at Bicentennial School in Coal Valley where she enjoyed the antics of the students and commraderie of the school staff, many of which became close friends staying in touch for many years. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, biking and golf, (she had two holes-in-one).

Marie is survived by four children and their spouses, Jim and Shawn Lamb of Bettendorf, Iowa, Tom Lamb of St. Louis, Missouri, Deb Lamb and Larry Hammerbacher of Calabash, North Carolina, and Julie and David Hogeboom of Coal Valley; seven grandchildren, Morgan and Marshal Lamb, Brandon, Barrett and Lindsey Lamb, and Rachel and Jamie Hogeboom.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at New Perspective Senior Living in Silvis for helping in the transition from living in her own home into senior living. To the staff of the Moline, Bickford Senior Living and Heartland Hospice Care you were exemplary advocates every day in every way and we can not thank you enough. The family would also like to thank Dr. Ahmed Okba and his staff for their care, concern and compassion.

Memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association.
