Lorraine Marie Cannell, 89, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, in Ridgewood Care Center, Racine, Wisconsin.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Elim Covenant Church, Moline. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the church.
The former Lorraine Marie Engholm was born December 27, 1918, in Moline, the first of twin girls to David and Hannah (Grear) Engholm. She graduated from Sherrard High School in 1936, and worked at the former Strombeck-Becker Manufacturing Company during the war. She married Warren Henry Cannell on January 24, 1946, at Elim Covenant Church. He died November 2, 1995.
Lorraine was a charter member of Elim Covenant Church, Moline, where she was very active in the Beacon Lites and Covenant Women?s Fellowship. She was active in PTA, Girl Scouts Cub Scouts at McKinley School in Moline when her children were students. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, and volunteered at church, schools, and Moline Public Hospital Auxiliary.
She and her twin sister, Virginia, were known for their ?cream puffs? that were at all of the bake sales and church functions, and enjoyed sewing and made most of their clothes. The twins were featured in at least three articles in the Daily Dispatch. She loved to read, travel and play any kind of game.
Lorraine is survived by her children and their spouses, Mark and Nanette Cannell of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Christine and John Smith of Racine; three grandchildren and their spouses, David and Jodie Smith of Racine, Elizabeth and Robert Erhardt of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and Sarah and David Baty of Glendale, Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Jesse, Brianna, Griffin and Mikayla Smith and Leah Erhardt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Kenneth Swanson and Shirley and Donald Anderson; a sister-in-law and her husband, Juanita and William Johnson, and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Cannell.
