Marian E. Welty

Marian Estelle (Hansen) Welty, 93, of Moline, IL, formerly of Colona, Illinois, died Monday, October 15, 2018.

Marian was born September 7, 1925 in Moline, IL. She graduated from Moline High School and attended Augustana College until, during World War II, the government asked for young women to become nurses. She responded and graduated from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 as a United States Cadet Nurse, promising to serve for the duration of the war. The Cadet Nurse Corps was established by the Bolton Act. This also was the decade of the severe polio epidemic. After the war, Miss Hansen served as pediatric supervisor at Moline Public Hospital, as industrial nurse at the Rock Island Arsenal, and as anesthetist's assistant for Dr. Bryce Ozanne and Dr. William Herath.

She married Charles Welty in 1949 and was employed at Blue Cross-Blue Shield in Chicago while her husband attended and graduated from DeForest (DeVry) Electronics School in Chicago. Their three children are: Roxanne Croegaert (Dean) Milan, IL; Thomas Welty (Nancy) Minneapolis, MN; and Anne Welty-Bostwick (John Bostwick) Cedar Falls, IA; four grandchildren Brian Croegaert (Amy), Joseph Hudson, Katherine Hudson, Lauren Hudson; and three great-grandchildren Charlotte Croegaert, Kylie Croegaert, and Jonathan Croegaert.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, parents Daniel and Anna Hansen, her mother-in-law Helen Welty, brothers Warren Hansen and Burton (Bud) Hansen, sister, Marjorie Carlson and nephew Stephen Hansen.

A visitation will be held at Trimble Funeral Home in Moline on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11am, followed by a funeral service at Noon. Burial service will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army in memory of Daniel Hansen.
