Coal Valley, Illinois Margaret M. Smolenski, 85, formerly of Coal Valley, died Wednesday, December 25, 2002, in Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis. Services are 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, and 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley. The Reverend Michael Schaab will officiate. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, where a wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. The former Margaret Mary Couri was born January 21, 1917, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of David and Josephine (Wagner) Couri. She married Joseph J. Smolenski on July 30, 1938, in East Moline, Illinois. He died May 25, 1973. She was employed in the office at John Deere Foundry for 32 years, retiring in 1982. She was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, Coal Valley, John Deere Women Retirees, and the Widow and Widowers Group. She enjoyed traveling. Margaret is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Bonnie Smolenski of Naples, Florida; two sons-in-law, Nick Tertipes of Warsaw, Missouri, and Mahlon "Andy" Anderson of Manlius, Illinois; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Cheryl Beach, Jolene and Tony Newton, Joel and Kelly Anderson, Wendy and Trevor Ingram, Kelly and Paul Dondanville, James Jr. and Marla Smolenski, and Julie and John Brandenburg; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Pat Anderson in 1994 and Mary Jo Tertipes in 1997, two brothers and one sister.
