Margaret L. Karstens

Margaret L. Karstens, 97, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, October 31, 2013, in Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis, Illinois.

Services are 1: 00 p.m. Monday at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, with The Reverend Florene Scott officiating. Interment will be in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice.

The former Margaret Lucille Hull was born November 27, 1915, in Moline, to William and Clara Barnett Hull. She married Richard H. Karstens on May 18, 1938, in Moline. He died May 2, 2003. She was bookkeeper for Desaulniers Printing Company and for her family's restaurants, Moline Maid Rite and Uncle Dick's, for 20 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline, was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and enjoyed reading, singing, doing counted cross stitch, and cooking.

Margaret is survived by her children, James L. Karstens of East Moline, Tom W. Karstens of Mesa, Arizona, and Marianne Whitmer and her husband Gary of East Moline; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband; a great-granddaughter; two sisters and two brothers.
