Marcella Murphy, 53, of Moline, Illinois, lost a half-year struggle with leukemia on Thursday, November 16, 2006, in M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Iowa Chapter.
The former Marcella Roseanne Carter was born January 2, 1953, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Earl J. Carter Jr. and Melba Porter Carter. She graduated from Moline High School in 1971. She married Timothy J. Murphy on May 29, 1987, in Moline. She was previously married to John H. Patton.
Marcella was a Logistic Management Specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal, TACOM. Her life centered on her family and work. She took great pride in being able to help ensure the military was properly equipped and traveled the country in this effort.
She collected Longaberger baskets, and enjoyed antiques, attending craft shows, and playing cards with her friends and family. She looked forward to a retirement of travel and grandchildren. It was a retirement she could not enjoy.
She was an exceptional and loving mother, grandmother, and wife, who put a great deal of energy and effort in being supportive of her children and grandchildren
Marcella is survived by her husband, Tim; children, Travis J. Patton and Alicia A. Patton, both of Moline; four grandchildren, Tremere A. Morney Jr., Kyree J. Morney, Amia J. Patton, and Andrew M. Stoedter; and brothers and a sister-in-law, Kenneth L. Carter of Moline, and Melvin W. and Julie Carter of Hannibal, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents.
