Manuel R. “Poppy” Guerrero, 48, of East Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis, Illinois.
Private services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Entombment is in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, East Moline. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Niabi Zoological Society.
Manuel Refugio Guerrero was born October 5, 1961, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Dr. Manuel O. and Lillian Nyquist Guerrero. He graduated from Moline High School, where he was Illinois State Wrestling Champion in 1980. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in psychology, and attended graduate school at Northern Illinois University. He loved animals, especially his dog Toby, and enjoyed helping people and the Rock River.
Poppy is survived by his father, Dr. Manuel O. Guerrero of East Moline; siblings, Desiree Guerrero McCammant and her husband David of Eldridge, Iowa, Vincent Guerrero of East Moline, Elizabeth Guerrero-Davis and her husband Chris Davis of Naperville, Illinois, and Maria Guerrero of East Moline; and nieces and nephews, Grace, Alex, and Sam McCammant, Maya Davis, and Spencer, Quinton, and Nicholas Guerrero. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Guerrero.
