Lillian M. Young, 94, long-time resident of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
Services are 2 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009, in First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Tim Snart officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the services at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, is entrusted with arrangements.
The former Lillian Mae Baacke was born November 30, 1914, in Chicago, the daughter of Rudolph and Lillian (Cushman) Baacke. She married Robert Little Young on May 2, 1934, in Chicago. He died March 25, 1991. She and her husband operated Young?s Portrait Studio in Coal Valley for 15 years. She was organist and choir director at First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley, gave private piano and violin lessons, and had been director of activities at Oak Glen Home.
The joys in her life included her family and friends, her church, oil painting, gardening, and photography. Robert and Lillian enjoyed their RV travels, spending time in Mexico, Canada, Alaska, and many of the Continental United States, and made Texas their winter home for many years. Her faith and loving, positive spirit were an inspiration to those who loved her.
Lillian is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeannette and Marc Wood of Irma, Wisconsin; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Paula Young of East Moline; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff and Elizabeth Wood of Chesapeake, Virginia, Cheryl and David Schillinger of Colona, Illinois, Laura and Joseph Sierra of East Moline, Marc and Jill Wood of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Suzanne and Jeff Belcher of Laredo, Texas, and Barbara and John Vogt of Kansas City, Missouri; seven great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Diane Baacke of Irma, Wisconsin, Lorraine Baacke of Cedar Lake, Indiana, and Helen Baacke of Tomahawk, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Williamson, and brothers, Rudolph, Robert, Richard, and Thomas Baacke.
