Laura M. Wilson, 98, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Brighton Gardens of Colorado Springs, Colorado where she had resided since 2002.
Services will be Wednesday, May 6th at 10:00 AM in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Dr. Flint Miller officiating. Visitation is Tuesday, May 5th, from 4-6 PM. Burial is in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Ralph and Laura Wilson Scholarship fund at First Baptist Church, Moline, where she was a member and active in many of the church organizations.
The former Laura Maurine Ryan was born August 11, 1910, in Moline, the daughter of Thomas and Mary Emma (Hill) Ryan. She married Ralph James Wilson on August 7, 1934, in Park Rapids, Minnesota. He died October 29, 2001.
Graduating from Moline High School in the class of 1929, she and Ralph continued to follow the Maroons in all of their sports activities. Later, they avidly cheered granddaughters, Molly and Amy, in swimming through high school and college.
Laura?s love of music continued throughout her life. There was hardly a song she didn?t know the words to. Her enjoyment of oil painting adorns the family?s walls. Molly and Amy were always the ?best? dressed as their grandmother made their clothes. She loved to go---anywhere, anytime, especially out to dinner, to the mountains, and on several adventures in other parts of the world. If you played cards with Laura, be prepared to lose.
Laura worked on the switchboard answering all the calls and later in the circulation department of the Daily Dispatch.
Laura is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Joe Lillard of Colorado Springs, and granddaughters, Molly Lillard and her husband, Billy O?Riordan of Egham, UK, and Amy Lillard and her husband, Matt Kling of St. Quentin La Poterie, France. Also surviving are her niece and nephew, Jay and Sonia Grafton. Their weekly calls made everyone where she lived stop and smile at her humor. Nieces, Janet Peterson and Maryann Stephenson and nephews, Brad and Mark Bisbey, also survive. She was preceded in death by brothers, Sam and Tom Ryan, and sisters, Mabel Grafton, Ada Olson, Bernice Parker, and Mildred Bisbey.
The family invites to you share stories and condolences and light a candle in Laura?s memory at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
