Myrtle M. Versluys, 84, of Orion, Illinois, died Saturday, March 20, 2010, in her residence, with her family by her side.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Robert Hagen officiating. Entombment is in Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, and will be followed by a Time of Sharing at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Parkinson?s Association.
The former Myrtle Mae Berg was born March 16, 1926, in Slayton, Minnesota, the daughter of Norman and Hilda Johnson Berg. She married Gordon Versluys on September 19, 1944, in East Moline. He died August 23, 1996. She worked in packing and shipping at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1990, and previously worked at the former Buddy L Toy Company and the former LeClaire Hotel, both in Moline.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Coal Valley, and the Coal Valley Widow?s Club. She supported the Salvation Army and Good Will, enjoyed yard sales, loved her cat, Kitty, and devoted her life to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by five children and their spouses, Delores and Thomas Laleman of Orion, Gary and Dee Versluys of Milan, Illinois, Bill and Toni Versluys of Clare, Illinois, Rod and Jan Versluys of Orion, and Tina and Todd Schmitt of Milan; 20 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon; two brothers, her twin, Norman Berg, and Richard Berg, and a sister, Viola Carlson.
The family extends a special thank you to her granddaughters Brenda and Kelly and to Trinity Pathway Hospice and especially Julie for their loving care.
