Harriett Swedberg, 84, of Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley.
Services for the family will be private. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
The former Harriett Marguerite Thurston was born December 21, 1923, in Mount Sterling, Ohio, the daughter of Asher and Harriett (Lawrence) Thurston. She received her BS from Hanover University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She married Robert Swedberg on June 18, 1950, in Chicago, Illinois. He died April 14, 2006.
She was self employed as a writer, antique dealer, appraiser, and lecturer. After her husband retired, they traveled to London several times a year for 15 years looking for antiques. She was an antique enthusiast, collector, and dealer. She authored more than 27 books on antiques, and was a member of Questers and the Adettes and taught antique classes in her home and at Blackhawk College.
Harriett was a member of Union Congregational Church, Moline. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was also a religious education teacher with missionary work in Tennessee. She was also a 4-H Leader, Brownie Leader, and a PTA member.
Harriett loved her family and her favorite times were spent with them. She always put everyone else?s needs above her own.
Harriett is survived by daughters and a son-in-law, Karen and Rick Sandberg of East Moline, Illinois, and Cheryl Swedberg of Magdalena, New Mexico, grandchildren and a spouse, Edy Swedberg, Cody Watson, and Adam and Andrea Watson, and a great-grandson, Logan Watson. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, and two brothers.
Mom is with Dad again after enduring Alzheimers for the past ten years. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed!
