Louis M. Sutton, 81, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Rock Island, died Monday, April 30, 2007, in Illinois Veterans Home, LaSalle, Illinois.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend Renee Bridwell, Fifteenth Avenue Christian Church, Rock Island, officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Louis Sutton Memorial Fund at Illinois Veterans Home.
Louis McClelland Sutton was born July 26, 1925, in Moline, the son of McClellan and Thelma (Havens) Sutton. He was a corparal in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II, and served at Payne Field in Cairo, Egypt,. He married Mildred Rose Emmert on October 2, 1948, in Rock Island.
Lou was a self-employed auto mechanic all his life, and owned and operated Sutton?s Garage in Rock Island, which had been started by his father, until retiring in 2000. He was an avid target shooter, and belonged to several shooting clubs. He won many shooting awards including the Illinois State Rifle Association?s Bliss Trophy in 1958 and First Place in its Marksman?s Class in 1959. He was a member of Moline American Legion Post #246, and enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, and collecting guns and Indian memorabilia.
Lou is survived by his wife, Mildred; two children and their spouses, Sally and Eugene Bartosh of Moline, and Lynn and Nancy Sutton of Kewanee, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Rebecca and Matthew Bartosh, and Joshua, Valerie and Natalie Sutton.
