Ernest M. Summers, 73, of Moline, Illinois, died suddenly Sunday, June 3, 2007, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Interment of cremains will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Moline Public Library, Diabetes Foundation, or Parkinson Foundation.
Ernest Moreland Summers was born November 22, 1933, in Bethlehem, Connecticut, the son of Homer and Mildred (Judd) Summers. He married Anita Macklin on December 15, 1956, in Toronto, Canada. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic in Greenland. He was vice president of technical sales for Wear-Cote International, Rock Island, for 23 years, retiring in 1995. He previously was employed at MacDermid Inc., Waterbury, Connecticut, for 17 years.
He was an avid reader, enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, bird watching, and traveling. He dearly loved his family and his feline companions, Ringo and Zoe.
Ernest is survived by his wife, Anita; three daughters, Heidi and Joe Lehner of Le Mars, Iowa, Rowena and Barry Fenstermacher of Katonah, New York, and Sylvi and Shelley Klaas Summers of Davenport, Iowa; five grandchildren, Matthew, Kelsea, and Tristan (T.J.) Jacobson, Ashley and Victoria Summers Klaas; and a great-grandson, Zachary Friedell. He was preceded in death by his sister, Frances.
