Harold Ohlsen, 88, of Hampton, Illinois, and East Moline, Illinois, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, in Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus.
There will be no services. Memorials may be made to Winnie?s Place, 4343 16th Street, #179, Moline, Illinois 61265. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
Harold M. Ohlsen was born June 13, 1921, in Moline, the son of Hans M. and Lena (Bailey) Ohlsen. He graduated from Moline High School. He married Elaine Hunter on February 14, 1943, in Moline.
Harold served his apprenticeship as a machinist at Williams White and Company before serving in the United States Navy during World War II. After returning from the war, he worked for McLaughlin Body in charge of quality control, and worked for Swan Engineering as a tool maker before returning to Williams White and Company, retiring as an assistant superintendent in 1985 after 20 years with the company.
Harold was a licensed riverboat captain, piloted the ?Commodore? riverboat, and was a pilot on the Jay-Dee boat for 20 years. He was a member of the Bix Beiderbeck Society, the Catfish Jazz Society, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.
Harold is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elaine; daughters and a son-in-law, Priscilla and Robert Kiehl of Akron, Ohio, and Margo Guinn of Hampton; grandchildren, George Guinn, Jr., Rebecca (Chris) Rangel, Valerie Stoehr (Todd Peters), Melanie (Charles) McKean, and Zachary Kiehl; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Saddler of Moline. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, George Guinn, Sr., a great-grandson, Dayden Dunn, two brothers, and three sisters.
