Betty Holmgren, 91, of East Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, February 13, 2011, in Aspen Health and Rehab, Silvis.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Foursquare Church, Moline, with The Reverends Noel Wilcox and Paul Lindblad officiating. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Hope Foursquare Church Elevator Fund.
The former Betty Margaret John was born March 22, 1919, in Rio, Illinois, the daughter of Conrad and Ruth (Houston) John. She married Edwin Holmgren on June 23, 1939, in Moline. They lived on Friendship Farm in Silvis, which is now the headquarters for the John Deere Classic, before moving to East Moline. Ed died on December 23, 2001.
She worked for Rock Island County as a reproduction operator for many years, retiring in 1988. Prior to that, she worked for Desaulniers & Company Printers and Publishers in Moline.
Betty was a very active member of New Hope Foursquare Church, formerly Moline Gospel Temple, for over 70 years. She enjoyed Crocheting.
Betty is survived by a son, John Holmgren of Bettendorf, Iowa, a brother, Richard John of Moline, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a sister, Mary Louise Chidester.
