M. Gabriel Parker

Lynn A. Parker, 61, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Thursday, February 23, 2012, in her residence.

Services are 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Timothy Snart officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Private burial will be in Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Animal Aid Humane Society, 239 50th Street, Moline, IL 61265.

The former Lynn Ann Durkee was born May 2, 1951, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Sidney and Bernadine (Vanderploeg) Durkee. She married Gerald Mortensen in 1969, in Clinton, Iowa, and later married Lawrence Parker in 1980, in Morrison, Illinois. She received her Bachelor?s Degree in Biology from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa.

Lynn worked as a biologist in the Clock Tower Building on the Rock Island Arsenal for nearly 24 years, retiring in 2011. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Fulton, and had recently been attending First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley. She enjoyed attending Renaissance Fairs, and loved dragonflies, sewing, crocheting, and being outdoors, especially landscaping and gardening. She loved spending time with her family.

Lynn is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kelly Mortensen of Muscatine, Iowa, and Kevin and Jodie Mortensen of Coal Valley; a grandson, Sam Mortensen; three step-grandchildren, J.P., Jack, and Ellie Martinez; and a sister, Jonni. She was preceded in death by brothers, Lee and Donny, a sister, Ruth, and her beloved dog, Pagan.
