After a long and courageous battle with lung cancer, Ethel M. Freeborn, 68, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2007, at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Eastern Star services and traditional funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until services. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to Trinity Pathway Hospice.
Ethel Marie Andrews was born April 18th, 1939, at home in Cincinnati, Iowa, to Bernard Lee Andrews and Dorothea L. Hart Andrews. She married Ray Franklin Freeborn, Sr. on December 8th, 1957, in Moline, Illinois. He died October 23, 1971.
Ethel had been employed as a telephone sales representative for Sears Service Center in Moline for 19 years before retiring in 1999. Ethel was also a cook at the Svithiod Club, downtown Moline for many years. She was a very active member in the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron from 1981-1982. Ethel was also a member of Zal Cauldron, White Shrine and The Order of the Amaranth, and held various offices in these organizations as well.
Surviving Ethel's passing are her children; her son Ray Franklin, Jr., and his wife Karen of Moline; her daughter, Mary Rretta Freeborn Little, and her husband Charles, of Port Byron; grandchildren, Jordan Lee Hill of Port Byron, Adrienne Marie Freeborn of Moline, and Kaytlyn Rae Anne Marie Hill of Port Byron; step-grandsons Timothy Little and Todd Little, Largo, Florida. Additional survivors include Ethel's step- son, Richard Lee Freeborn, his wife Rita and their two children, Ian John and Erin Elizabeth of East Moline; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth Young of Moline, Shelley and Benny Phillips of Oliver Springs, TN, and Sue and Todd DeVolder of Moline. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and several cousins.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sisters Mary Ellen Walton and Connie Maxine Leech, her parents -in-law Ray and Avis Freeborn, and a very special nephew, J. Michael Ross.
Ethel was deeply loved and will be missed more than words can express.
