M. Capouch

Myrtle M. Capouch, a retired teacher and long-time resident of Moline, passed away on Tuesday, February 2 in Sequim, Washington, at the age of 97.
The family will hold a prayer service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 13 in the chancel at First Congregational Church preceding interment in Riverside Cemetery, Moline. Memorials may be made to Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 258, P.O. Box 517, Hampton, IL 61256. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is assisting the family.
She was born in Ely, Minnesota, August 31, 1912, the daughter of Gust and Senja Maki , who had each immigrated to the United States from Finland in the 1890?s.
Myrtle attended schools in Ely and graduated from Ely Junior College. She received a degree from American College of Physical Education in Chicago in 1933 and returned to teach in the Ely school system. She married Kenneth Capouch, whom she had met in Chicago, in 1938 and they moved to Moline where he was employed. While helping raise her family, she continued her teaching career in Moline as an elementary teacher for 17 years at Coal Valley, Butterworth and Washington schools, retiring in 1972. During that period, she earned a masters degree from Marycrest College.
While living in Moline, Myrtle was an active member of the First Congregational Church, participating in many guild activities and later serving as a volunteer wedding consultant for the church. She was also an active member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a past Worthy Matron of the Moline chapter. Since 1995 she had lived in Sequim, WA following the death of her husband, Kenneth Capouch, in 1992.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary Capouch (Patricia) of Sequim, WA, and Jay Capouch (Mary) of Mandeville, LA; three grandchildren, Julie Hughes of Elgin, IL, Jason Capouch of Los Angeles, CA, and Taylor Capouch of Wauwatosa, WI, and two great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her three sisters: Violet Lassey, Lilja Hendrickson, and Merna Kess; and one brother, Reino Maki.
