Lloyd L. "Red" Boughton, 90, of Savanna, Illinois, formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, died Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First Southern Baptist Church, 305 1st Street, Colona, Illinois. Prior to services, cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the family.
He was born August 4, 1925, in Media, Illinois, the son of George and Pearl (Evans) Boughton. He married Grace Cadwell on April 16, 1946. She died November 19, 2007. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.
Red was a farmer in and around Galesburg. He founded the Country Music Association in Galesburg, and was a well-known country music performer in the Galesburg area for several groups including "Red Boughton and the Golden Rockets". He played many instruments, and was known as the "Country Yodeler".
He is survived by six children, Thomas (Dorothy) Boughton of Galesburg, Everett Boughton of Knoxville, Patricia (Samuel) Hopping of Morton, Illinois, Loretta and Randy Hunnicutt of St. Charles, Missouri, Sherry Boughton of Galesburg, and Brenda (Mike) Workman of Davenport; 20 grandchildren including Arlie Sward of East Moline; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Carl Boughton and Gene (Sharon) Boughton. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son at birth, Dickey; and siblings, Howard, Orville, Bob, Clyde, Grace, and LeRoy.
