Linda L. Schjelderup

Coal Valley, Illinois Linda Schjelderup, 56, of Coal Valley, Illinois, lost her 18 month battle with leukemia on Thursday, November 18, 2004, at Genesis West Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa. Services are 1 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa, with Pastor Paul N. Tweeten officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to a memorial fund which will be established in her name or to a favorite charity. The former Linda Louise McCandless was born October 31, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of William Russell and Mary Thomas McCandless. She grew up primarily in Washington, Iowa, and attended Washington High School. She married Dennis Sieren on September 8, 1966. She married Leslie Schjelderup on May 11, 1985, in Davenport, Iowa. She had been employed at Litton Industries (formerly Bendix) in Davenport for several years. Prior to moving to Coal Valley, she had lived in Germany, Idaho, Colorado, and Davenport. Linda loved dogs and leaves behind her beloved Treeing Walker Coonhound she appropriately named Bandit. Linda also left a legacy of whimsical short stories and letters with a multitude of hand-sewn costumes, cuddly toys, doll clothes, pajamas and crafts. Her family, especially her grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews, all felt Linda's love through them. Linda enjoyed piano, country and rock 'n roll music and loved to dance. Her favorite was waltzing with her husband. Grandma Linda especially loved to play with her wonderful grandchildren. They planted gardens and flowers, made play houses, wore funny hats and dress-up clothes and painted everyone's toe and fingernails, even the dogs! Her grandchildren adore and treasure her rendition of bug juice, pancakes, tomato soup and most of all, her prime milkshakes. Linda is survived by her husband, Les; three children and their spouses and families, Richard and Becky Sieren and their children David, Derick, Dylan, and Dakota, of Bacliff, Texas; Denise and Brett Vanscoy and their children Amanda and Austin, of Coal Valley; and Mary Ann and Monte McDowell and their daughter Morgen, of Jamaica, Iowa; her mother and step-father, Mary and Louis Hallmann of Mesa, Arizona; a brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Carla McCandless of Washington, Iowa; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Patti and Les Broughton and Anna and Steve Goodwin, all of Mesa, Arizona.
