Gene Lebo, 79, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on February 12, 2024 after a short but valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family. He was born on December 15, 1944, in Oak Ridge, TN, to the late Arlene and Lester Eugene Lebo, Sr.
Gene, was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He was funny, kind, loving and everyone he met was considered a friend. He was a proud father and an even prouder grandfather. Gene will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Burton Lebo, his daughter Dr. Michelle (Lebo) Morse and son-in-law Greg Morse, his granddaughters Alyssa (32) and Peyton (17), his daughter Kristen Lebo Naimi and son-in-law Matthew Naimi, and his grandson Holden (9). He is also survived by his brother Rick Lebo and sister-in-law Joy.
Gene had an impressive educational background, having graduated from Bearden High School in Knoxville, TN. He went on to pursue higher education at the University of Tennessee, where he obtained both his master’s and undergraduate degrees.
Throughout his career, Gene held the position of Vice President at Baird Wealth and worked for the United States Department of Commerce. In his early career he worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority and Tennessee Fish and Game. His dedication and expertise in these roles were highly valued by his colleagues and peers.
In his free time, Gene loved traveling and spending time with his wife, Judy, of 58 years. He enjoyed various hobbies including his second love, golf. He was an amazing golfer and won many local tournaments in the Quad Cities area. In his younger days, he was a professional bowler, and part of the University of Tennessee’s NCAA bowling team. He also always loved to fish, both alone and with his grandchildren. He loved watching sports, especially his beloved University of Tennessee Volunteers. Above all, Gene loved spending time with his three grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and happiness.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Gene's memory to The Genesis Health Services Foundation on behalf of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
A celebration of life will be held at Silvercrest Garner Senior Living on Saturday, March 9 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Address is 1575 W 53rd St. Davenport, Iowa
