Leslie R. Schjelderup, 80, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.

Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with a funeral service at 1 p.m. Friends are invited to join the family at a dessert reception in CityView Celebrations on the lower level of Trimble Pointe after the funeral. Burial will follow in Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Davenport, where he was a member, American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.

Leslie Roy Schjelderup was born November 17, 1943, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to Elmer and Eleanor (Boucher) Schjelderup. He graduated from the University of North Dakota with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Linda McCandless Sieren on May 11, 1985, in Davenport. She died November 18, 2004. He married Carolyn Sample Lighter on December 16, 2006, in Pekin, Illinois. He was an engineer on the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 2007. He enjoyed flying remote control airplanes and belonged to the Quad City Sky Raiders Flying Club and the Erie Flying Club.

Les is survived by his wife, Carolyn; step-children, Denise (Brett) Vanscoy of Coal Valley, and Mary Ann Harris of Texas; seven step-grandchildren and their families; and siblings, Gerald (Linda) Schjelderup of Moorhead, Minnesota, Darlene Dimke of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Carol Ashley of Ocean Springs, Washington, and Sharon Schjelderup of Mounds View, Minnesota, He was preceded in death by stepsons, Richard Sieren and Timothy Rives; a step-grandson, Mitchell Rives; and a sister, Lois Larson.
