Legrand H. ?Lee? Brannen, 100, of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, June 3, 2013, in Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois.
Services are 1 p.m. Friday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, with The Reverend R. Wayne Furr officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors.
Legrand Hamlin Brannen was born October 5, 1912, in Schaller, Iowa, the son of Legrand L. and Carol Sipes Brannen. He married Annis R. Cranston on January 22, 1946, in Beloit, Wisconsin. He served in the U. S. Army during WW II, and earned two bronze battle stars for battles in the Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. He was a self employed food salesman for over fifty years.
Lee was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, American Legion Post #246, Moline, American Rifle Association, and a long time member of Golfmohr Men?s Club. He was an avid golfer, playing until he was 97, and making four holes-in-one. He was the Wisconsin State Champion in 1933, and at age 16, he had a double eagle on a par 5 in a match at Beloit Country Club.
Lee is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Christine Brannen of San Diego, California, and Richard and Jan Brannen of Coal Valley, Illinois; four grandchildren, Kelli Brannen, Kim Brannen, Jimmy Brannen and his wife Cindy, and Missy Brannen; and two great-grandchildren, Devin Charles Brannen and Keagan Riley Wardrip. He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Charles Brannen.
