Lee A. Turley, 87, of Rock Island, Illinois, formerly of Moline and Beardstown, Illinois, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 18, 2005, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Burial is in National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is from 12 Noon to funeral time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Lee Albert Turley was born November 16, 1918, in Jordan, Montana, the son of Claude and Nina (Bridgeman) Turley. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a machine operator at John Deere Plow-Planter Works for 31 years, retiring in 1988. He previously worked at the Social Security Board in Baltimore, Maryland.
Lee was active in the American Legion, where he was Commander of Moline Post #246, Rock Island County Commander, 14th District Commander, and Delegate to State and National Conventions, and was Chef De Gare of 40 & 8 Veterans organization. He enjoyed gardening and photography.
Lee is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Jack Duncan of Moline; nieces and nephews and their spouses, David and Vicki Duncan of West Plains, Missouri, Richard and Beverly Duncan of Bettendorf, Iowa, Dian Duncan of Geneseo, Illinois, Joyce and Jim Westpfhal of Milan, Illinois, Gene and Marion Turley of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Glenn and Mary Ellen Turley of Oregon; and a special friend, Jim Long of Moline. He was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and a nephew, Larry Duncan.
