Laverne Eugene Allen

Services for LaVerne E. "Vern" Allen, age 70 of Coal Valley, are 11 AM Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Visitation is 5 to 8 PM Friday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family. Mr. Allen died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. LaVerne Eugene Allen was born November 7, 1931, in Corning, Arkansas, the son of Martin V. and Lena G. (Simmons) Allen. He married Barbara Lea Guss on August 6, 1955 in East Moline, Illinois. Vern was employed as an Iron Worker at Frank Foundry in Moline for over 40 years, retiring in 1991. One of his favorite pastimes was shooting pool with his friends. Vern is survived by his wife, Barbara of Coal Valley; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Eddie Hoskins of Coal Valley; a son, Kenneth Allen of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Mike Cirricione of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Destiny Hoskins, Brandon Hoskins, and Felicia Hoskins all of Coal Valley, Krista Allen, and Kelli Allen both of Corona, California; a great-granddaughter, Nichole Cirricione of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Brenda Allen of Naylor, Missouri; along with several nieces and nephews. Preceding Vern in death were his parents, and two brothers, Clifford and Harold Allen.
