Laura L. Robeson

April 3, 1928 — April 24, 2016

A quick-witted, generous, and caring woman has completed her life on earth and is now in Heaven. Laura L. Robeson, 88, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, in Amber Ridge Memory Care, Moline.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, 777 25th Avenue, East Moline, with The Reverend Becky Sherwood officiating. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Memorials may be made to the church, Alzheimer's Association, or Amber Ridge Memory Care.

The former Laura Lee Drummond was born to Mayme (Brookhart) and Arlyn Drummond on April 3, 1928, in Azen, Missouri. After graduating from Lancaster High School in 1945 she moved to Moline where she met the love of her life, Harry Frank Robeson. They were married on August 24, 1947, at Plymouth Congregational Church Moline. Laura and Harry were blessed with three children, John, Teresa and Tamyra. After raising her children, Laura was employed at Augustana College as a pioneer computer operator from 1966 to 1984. After retiring, she worked at Lutheran Social Service of Illinois for several years.

Laura will be remembered for being an excellent chef and bridge player who loved having her family near, and who enjoyed walking, traveling, reading, and doing needlepoint and cross stich.
She deeply loved her husband and has greatly missed him since his death in 1992.

Laura is survived by her three children and spouses, John and Diana Robeson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Teresa and Richard Dempsey of Port Byron, Illinois, and Tammy Dempsey of Helena, Montana; nine grandchildren and spouses, Angela and Jon Smith, Cynthia and Jason Lechtenberg, Greg Anderson, Chandra and Allen Oakland, Todd Dempsey, Jennifer Dempsey, Erin Oosting, Danny and Chelsea Oosting, and Kelly and Mitch Lange; nine great-grandchildren;
Sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Donald Hilliard of Lancaster, Missouri, and Nita and Tom Cragg of Gallatin, Missouri; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Drummond of Holland, Michigan, and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a brother, Rex Drummond.

Laura's family would like to thank the staff of Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care of Laura the past few months. We would also like to thank the amazing staff at Amber Ridge Memory Care for their friendship and love. Laura felt at home in their care and was always commenting upon the comfort she felt living there. We especially thank Dr. Francis Kane for his care and attention.

Laura enjoyed celebrating the holidays with her family. She loved cooking for the large crowd at Thanksgiving and always made her award winning mashed potatoes, of which many have tried to replicate but none have quite succeeded. Turkey notes have been a family tradition since Laura's mother started them in the 1960s. Her turkey note for this year will be read in her memory. "Turkey hugged, turkey kissed. This turkey will be greatly missed."

Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at Trimble FuneralHomes.com.
