Larry W. Dolan, 69, of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, in his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Services are 10 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Church, 2305 7th Avenue, Moline, with Pastors Scott Reece and Paul Lindblad officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline.
Larry Wayne Dolan was born March 23, 1947, in Richland Center, Wisconsin, to Wayne and Charlene (Braithwaite) Dolan. He was in the US Army from 1966 to 1969, and served two tours in Vietnam. He married Mary Esser on May 13, 1978, in Dubuque. She died October 19, 1994. He married Marsha Cook Rodriguez on June 27, 1997, in Davenport, Iowa. He was a machinist at the Rock Island Arsenal for 33 years, retiring in 2014.
Larry was an avid softball pitcher for 40 years. He won the National Championship, was a six-time gold medalist in the Senior Olympics, and inducted into the Quad City Hall of Fame. He was a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan, loved attending his grandchildren's events, and enjoyed traveling and eating at Taco John's. Larry was a member of New Hope Church and Milan VFW. He was a very social person who never met a stranger.
Larry is survived by his wife, Marsha; five children and spouses, Chad and Kathy Dolan, Stephanie McMillin, Erick and Kristi Rodriguez, Jeffrey and Chelsey Dolan, and Emilee and Kevin Harness; nine grandchildren, Kyleigh, Ryann, Clason, Maelynn, Beckam, Jentzen, Evelyn, Emersyn, and Malia; and siblings and spouses, Paul and Evie Dolan, Colleen and Tony Montag, Jim and Judi Dolan, Peggy Dolan, Joanne and David Ridenour, Terry Dolan and Sue O'Neil, and Donna and Dan Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and Doug Dolan.
