Larry Murdock

East Moline, Illinois Larry Murdock, age 75, of East Moline, died Thursday, February 28, 2002 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Monday at First Presbyterian Church, East Moline. Private burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 to 7:00 PM at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, East Moline, or to one's favorite charity. Lawrence Gerald Murdock was born July 12, 1926 in Gibson, Iowa the son of Riley and Cora (Agy) Murdock. He married Beverly Jean Lanman on November 6, 1953, in Ottumwa, Iowa. Larry attended St. Ambrose University, Davenport, the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, IN, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.S. in Science. Larry served in the United States Navy during World War II, and the Naval Reserves until 1959. He taught and was a principal in public schools in Western Iowa from 1950 to 1957. Larry retired as an Industrial Engineer from the John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline in 1982 after 25 years of employment. After retiring from Deere, he taught math for 10 years at Blackhawk College, Moline. He was a longtime member and Ordained Elder of First Presbyterian Church, East Moline as well as a member of the choir. Larry was a member and Life Master of the Quad City Bridge Club. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, traveling, was known for his wonderful sense of humor, and always had a good joke to tell. He was happiest when he was with his family, and deeply loved his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife Beverly; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Kim Goudreau, Rockton, IL, and Lisa and Peter Murdock-Neff, Springfield, IL; a son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Ann Murdock, Mooresville, NC; four grandchildren, Philip and Audrey Goudreau, Laura Neff, and Rachael Murdock; four step-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Ehret, Cedar Rapids, IA; brother, Donald Murdock, St. Charles, IA; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Murdock, Yakima, WA.
