Larry E. Atkinson

Larry E. Atkinson, 62, or Pana, Illinois, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, November 14, 2010, at home.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Celebration of Life Chapel at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline. Visitation is 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday. Those wishing to attend the burial at Rock Island National Cemetery are invited to meet at the funeral home before 9:45 a.m. on Monday, November 22, 2010. American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to the Larry Atkinson Memorial Fund to be established by the family.

Larry Eugene Atkinson was born September 11, 1948, in Monett, Missouri, the son of James and Helen (Henson) Atkinson. He married Sheila Williams. He later married Marie Silvia on April 1, 1997, in Rock Island. He served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War. He later served in the Army Reserves. He worked for the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1998.

Larry was a member of the Moline American Legion Post #246, and volunteered for the DAV. He enjoyed writing poetry, fishing, and watching NASCAR.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Atkinson of Pana, his mother, Helen Atkinson of Union, Missouri, children and their spouses, Michael and Catherine Atkinson of Rock Island, Illinois, Ronnie Nelson of Union, Missouri, Melissa and Les Eichmeier of Davenport, Iowa, Dale Silvia, Jennifer Silvia, Vance Gibson, Jr., Chad Burney, and Elerika Farber, 19 grandchildren, and a brother, Ed Burn of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by his father, a daughter, Beth Gainey, and a brother, Dale Russell.
