Larry D. Goben

Larry D. Goben, 75, of Sherrard, Illinois, died Monday, February 22, 2016, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois.

Services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with The Reverend Terry Evans officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Viola United Methodist Church.

Larry Dean Goben was born October 15, 1940, in Matherville, Illinois, the son of Orville and Lucy (Orwig) Goben. He married Ruth Beveridge on May 19, 1962, in Coal Valley.

He was a machinist for Alcoa in Bettendorf for over 34 years, retiring in 1999. His passion was stock car racing. He passed his love of racing on to his son, Kevin, whom he enjoyed watching compete over the years. Above all else, he loved being with his family, rarely missing any family gatherings.

Larry is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Ruth, of Sherrard; two sons and their wives, Jeff and Debra Goben of Matherville, and Kevin and Caroline Goben of Sherrard; grandchildren, Kayla and Eddie Fowler, Carrie Conover, Brook Lambert, and Mike and Sally Serpa; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Kortnee, Emma, and Andrew; siblings, Dennis and Theresa Goben of Preemption, Benne and Judy Goben of Viola, Sandy and Paul Strandberg of Coal Valley, Randy and Lucy Goben of Oquawka, and Steve Goben of New Windsor; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Ronnie, Victor, Roger, and Mike Goben, and Sally Polk.
