Landis L. Garrison, 81, long-time resident of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Sunday, February 22, 2015, in UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island, Rock Island, Illinois, surrounded by his loving family.

Services are 11 a.m. Friday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, Illinois, with The Revs, Tim Snart and Bill Longmore officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospitals, Rock Island County Animal Care and Control Shelter, or Hope Creek Care Center. Landis was adamant in requesting casual dress for everyone attending.

Landis Loman Garrison was born June 3, 1933, in Blackhawk Township, Rock Island County, Illinois, to Amos and Laura (Fry) Garrison. He married Elizabeth "Betty" Beveridge on June 23, 1954, in Springfield, Tennessee. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and was a machine operator at Alcoa for 42 years, retiring in 1993. He worked for many years helping his father and brother farm and operate a saw mill, and later helped his son at Quality Repair, where he loved to plow snow with his grandson, Landis.

Landis served on the Coal Valley Township Cemetery Board for 18 years, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Coal Valley; American Legion Post #246, Moline, Alcoa Retirees Club, and Pheasant Runners Camping Club; and was active in Boy Scouts for many years. He enjoyed camping with his family, woodworking, and helping his children and grandchildren fix things, and loved to give his great-grandchildren rides on his gator and golf cart.

Landis is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; three children and their spouses, Michael and Cindy Garrison of Pahrump, Nevada, Randy and Leah Garrison of Port Byron, Illinois, and Pamela and Jeff Miller of Silvis, Illinois; six grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Yvette Garrison, Ron and Maria Garrison, Amber and Brad Peterson, Kenny and April Musser, Heather McMaster, and Nathan McMaster; ten great-grandchildren, Chris Garrison, Brady, Blake, Allyssa and Boyd Peterson, Hayden, Landis and Conner Musser, Collin Jensen, and Makayla McMaster; five step-grandchildren; 12 step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and sisters and a brother-in-law, Arlene and Raymond Fry of Coal Valley, and Jean Anderson of Downers Grove, Illinois. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Sgt. Landis W. Garrison; four brothers, his twin Lyman and Donald, Connie, and Dorrell Garrison; and sisters, Mary Dalton and Alma and Elaine Garrison.
