Betty L. Van Oteghem, 82, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, in Silver Cross Health and Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, with a luncheon following. The Reverend Edward A. Borycz will officiate. Private burial will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Moline, is entrusted with arrangements.
The former Betty Lou Cramer was born April 1, 1927, in Moline, the daughter of Thomas James and Marie Theresa (Traeger) Cramer. She married Leonard A. Van Oteghem on September 2, 1949, in Moline. She was employed as an insurance clerk at John Deere Insurance for 11 years, retiring in 1987.
She was an active member of First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, where she had been a deacon, Moderator, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. She enjoyed gardening, stamp collecting and crossword puzzles.
Betty is survived by her husband, Leonard; three children and their spouses, Richard and Melody Van Oteghem of Milan, Teresa and Phillip Nielsen of Hokah, Minnesota, and Paul and Rhonda Van Oteghem of O?Fallon, Illinois; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary Jane Hecht of Mediapolis, Iowa, and Barbara Lundahl of Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and two brothers.
