Robert L. McCune, 80, of 888 Stone Ridge Place, died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at First Congregational UCC, Dubuque with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Bickel officiating. A burial and committal service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Greenview Memorial Gardens, Silvis, Illinois by the Rev. alan Mothershed of the First Congregational Church UCC, Moline, officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 - 7:00 Sunday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home, 2659 JFK Rd. and after 9:30 a.m. until time of services Monday, at First Congregational UCC.
Robert was born on April 22, 1928 in Moline, Illinois, the son of Albert and Bertha (Anderson) McCune. He graduated from Moline High School class of 1946 and received his BS degree from Bradley University in June of 1950. Robert?s career with John Deere started upon his graduation at the John Deere Planter Works in Moline. In 1958, he transferred to Sales and Production Department at the John Deere Dubuque Works and became the Distribution Administrator of the Industrial Distribution Department in 1969. Robert retired in October of 1982.
Robert was a former trustee at First Congregational UCC and was an active member of the church. He was also very involved in the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He received the Order Of The Golden Heart award, the fraternity?s highest honor for service, and also served as it?s District Governor of Iowa. Traveling and researching deep into family genealogy, were two of Robert?s pasttimes.
He is survived by his siblings; Cheryl R. Dralle of Geneseo, Illinois, Allyn C. (Janice) McCune and Janet L. Hemmingson both of East Moline, Illinois. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Albert "Dick" McCune, a sister-in-law: Donna L. McCune, two brothers-in-law; Richard Dralle and Robert Hemmingson, and a nephew: Michael McCune.
